The new extension to the James Hardiman Library will open in September 09. The accommodation, on three floors, will house the nursing and midwifery books and journals and offer c.120 study spaces, with power points at all desks for laptop access. Wireless access will be available on all floors. Additional services include an enquiry point; group study rooms; a PC suite; self-issue facilities; photocopiers; a training room; easy seating areas and a desk reserve collection.
The Library offers access to a wealth of information via the Library web site http://www.library.nuigalway.ie . This includes electronic books and journals , past examination papers and a comprehensive collection of e-resources (databases), all of which can be accessed on campus and remotely. Library resources and services can be accessed from any PC suite including the electronic resources; BlackBoard and the full range of services offered to students by Computer Services
A Nursing and Midwifery Librarian, who has specialist knowledge of the literature, is available to assist you with your subject queries, which may be received in person, by email, or by telephone. In addition training sessions, in information skills and the use of our electronic resources, are offered to all students, in group sessions or on a one-to-one basis.
The Library also provides specific support for students who study using a Blended Learning approach. All of the Library services and resources, including contact details; an online enquiry service; tutorials on search techniques and on specific electronic resources, are available to students via BlackBoard and also from the Library web site.
The subject librarian meets all new students at the beginning of the course and introduces students to the range of library services and resources that are available.
Group Study Rooms
- Only registered NUI Galway students are permitted to book rooms.
- There must be a minimum of two students in a group to book. Also at least two students must be present at all times in the room to preserve the booking. However room bookings and key pick up may be done via an individual.
- Bookings are for group work only, private bookings are not allowed.
- Bookings should be made at the Customer Services Desk in the Main Library or by telephone 091 49 3399 quoting your University student ID number.
- All available time slots are reserved on a first-come first-served basis.
- Bookings can be made two weeks in advance.
- Each booking session is limited to a maximum of two hours with starts on the hour.
