Library Budget 2009/2010
To Deans/Heads of Schools
Please find attached a spreadsheet showing the allocation of the Library Books and Journals fund for 2009/10 per College and School. I’d like to draw a few points to your attention:
In accordance with the recommendations of the Budget Efficiencies Group, the overall books and journals allocation has been reduced from €2,062,771 to €1,898,625.
This represents a cut of c.8%, but the actual cut to funds for academic units has been limited to c.3%, with higher reductions in the general funds listed at the end of the spreadsheet.
The budget reflects the new academic structure, with allocations now at College and School level only; as previously, allocations are based on staff/student FTEs.
Some further consolidation has taken place, eg there is a single College Fund, incorporating previously separate special Undergrad/Postgrad funds per College; also the Special Research is now included in the Librarian’s Discretionary Fund.
It is important to be aware of a likely reduction in national funding for IReL, the Irish Research eLibrary, which will result in discontinuation of some of IReL’s database or journal subscriptions.
Please contact myself or Monica Crump (Ext. 3765), Head of Information Access and Learning Services, if you have any queries regarding the above. The Information Librarian for your College will continue to act as the point of liaison for all staff throughout the budget year.
Best wishes
John
