The Cataloguing Department is responsible for cataloguing and classification of all material in the Library. This means that we:
We use the Dewey Decimal Classification System, edition 22 (DDC 22), with the exception of Archaeology which is catalogued using the Universal Decimal Classification system (UDC).

Classification consists of 10 main classes, these will guide you to the
shelves holding books in your subject area:

We also use the Library of Congress Subject Headings to help us describe the subject matter of each book. To see this on our Library Catalogue [Link to Catalogue]
If you find a book on the catalogue that has the status “processing”, this means that it is in the process of being catalogued. If you need it urgently, let us know and we can prioritise it for you, by contacting Sonia or Patricia at Ext. 2542/3253.
