SERVICES FOR EXTERNAL USERS 

The Library offers membership to external users.  This provides you with self-service access to Library facilities.  A range of additional services are also available to Library members. 

MEMBERSHIP FEES

NUIG Graduate Membership
NUIG graduates are offered free membership.  The Library only applies charges for borrowing facilities and specialist information services.
Note:  Proof that you are a graduate of NUIG is required.

Personal Membership
3 months membership           €30
6 months membership           €60
Annual membership               €120

Open University Students
Open University students are offered a 50% reduction on the membership fee.
Annual membership  €60

Corporate Membership
Annual corporate membership   €300
This provides self-service access to Library facilities for five named staff who are issued with Library cards.  Additional cards are negotiable.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

The library offers a range of additional services to its external members.  These services are tailored to the needs of businesses, industry, professionals and individuals. 

Borrowing Facilities
Borrowing facilities (two items for two weeks) are available to members for an additional annual fee of €60.  There is a minimum charge of €30 for shorter term borrowing facilities.

Document Delivery Service
Document delivery of journal articles, books, theses, technical reports, patents and standards from the Library’s own collection, the British Library Document Supply Service and other sources, is offered.  Delivery time is an important feature of this service and the library can fulfill urgent requests for articles within twenty four hours and in some cases within one hour.  The cost of this service is €20 per item.

Your completed application form must be accompanied by

• Passport size photograph
• Appropriate fee if applicable
• Proof that you are a graduate of NUI Galway if applicable (e.g., photocopy of scroll, exam results or letter from the Alumni Office)
• Proof of registration with the Open University if applicable

Research Service
A research service is provided for in-depth enquiries carried out by an information specialist, using the library’s own collection of books, journals, reference material and databases.
Hourly rate             €75
Minimum charge     €25
Note: Additional charges for online searches, photocopying and fax.
