The Archives service of the James Hardiman Library was established in 1998 to acquire, preserve and make accessible the archival collections of the Library. We aim to support the research and information needs of the University community and other appropriate users.
The Archives service is open to all staff and students of the University, and all bona fide researchers who wish to access material not available elsewhere. Please contact the Archivists in advance of your visit to ensure a fast and efficient service.
Archival material is not for loan, and must be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room. A University ID or visitor pass will allow access to the room, and you will be expected to sign a register when you enter. Please note that all researchers and users of the Archives service are expected to abide by the conditions of access.
As well as one-to-one support, the Archivists also provide training sessions to help users make the most of the archival collections - please see our Training Events page for more details.
In addition, members of academic staff are welcome to contact us to discuss offering a themed session for individual classes or groups. We will be pleased to advise on specific relevent materials within the collections.
