Digital Preservation
Libraries and archives have traditionally been concerned with the physical preservation of printed material, manuscripts and paper archives. The long-term preservation of digital material presents a new set of challenges for librarians and archivists.
In order to ensure the long term preservation of digital resources the creator of digital resources should plan for the lifecycle of the resource. File formats and physical storage media are perhaps the most important considerations when it comes to planning for the long term storage of digital objects. Another important consideration is the creation of metadata associated with digital objects.
