Publishing your Thesis
The National University of Ireland, Galway has recently adopted the policy of providing access to PhD theses in both print and online format. Online publication enables immediate access to a thesis from anywhere in the world and offers the potential for a thesis to be cited more frequently in other research publications. This will give NUI Galway research and researchers greater exposure.
PhD candidates must now therefore submit:
- one hard-bound copy of the thesis to the Student Contact Centre
- an online copy to the Library via the ARAN: Access to Research at NUI Galway system.
Before submitting your thesis for publication online through ARAN, it is important to be aware of:
- The PhD Submission Workflow and the Library Submission Form
- Issues relating to third party copyright material included in your thesis - see our guide to Copyright and E-Theses and use this Copyright Permission Letter Template if you need to request permission to include 3rd party content such as illustrations in your thesis.
- The mechanisms at your disposal to limit access to your thesis. If you intend to seek a publisher for your work you are advised to seek an embargo on access to the electronic version to prevent it entering the public domain before it has been published.
- If your thesis contains confidential or sensitive material that should not be in the public domain, you must remove this content and indicate that it has been removed for confidentiality reasons before uploading to ARAN.
Please don't hesitate to contact your Research Support Librarian if you need any assistance.
