External User Service
The Library offers membership to external users. This provides self-service access to Library facilities. In addition, a range of services are available to external users.
Membership Fees
Graduates of the University can register with the Library for free, although there is a charge for borrowing books and specialist information services. Graduates will be asked to provide proof that they are graduates of NUI Galway. There are charges for other external users:
Personal Membership
- Three months membership 30 euro
- Six months membership 60 euro
- Annual membership 120 euro
Open University students are offered a 50% reduction on the membership fee
Annual corporate membership is 300 euro. This offers access to the Library for five named staff. Additional cards are negotiable.
Additional Services
The Library offers a range of additional services to external members. For instance, borrowing (two items for two weeks) is offered for an additional annual fee of 60 euro. For shorter periods of membership there is a minimum fee of 30 euro.
The Library can provide document delivery of journal articles, books and other material. The cost of this services is 20 euro per item.
There is a research service for in-depth enquiries. Research will be carried out by an information specialist using the full range of Library resources. The hourly rate is 75 euro, with a minimum charge of 25 euro. Please note that there will be additional charges for online searches, photocopying and fax.
How to apply
To obtain Library membership, you will need to complete an External Users Application Form . Take or send the form to the Customer Services Desk (T: 091 493399 or E: library@nuigalway.ie), together with a passport sized photograph and the appropriate fee.
NUI Galway graduates will need to provide proof that they are graduates, and Open University students should provide proof of registration with the OU.
