Donations Policy
The Library welcomes donations and we are extremely grateful to those who have made donations or bequests to us in the past, thereby greatly enhancing our collections.
If you wish to donate a collection of books or other material to the library please complete the Donations Form. Please note that specific policies relate to the acquisition or donation of Archives.
It is important to note that due to restrictions of space to store it and staff resources to process it, it is not possible for us to accept all donations. We therefore apply the same selection policy to donations as we do to all other acquisitions.
Issues of condition, format, overlap with existing stock and relevance to NUI Galway teaching and research are used to judge the value of all such material to the University community. On occasion, regrettably, offers of donation or bequests may have to be declined, or materials excluded, that do not meet our selection criteria.
Donated material that does not meet the selection criteria will not be added to stock, and may be:
- Returned to the donor on request
- Donated to Better World Books (which raises money for worldwide literacy initiatives)
- Recycled.
