The James Hardiman Library acquires archival collections which support the teaching and research needs of National University of Ireland, Galway, as well as strenghtening links between the University and its community. The Archives Service acquires material by donation, loan and purchase. The Archives Service is interested in acquiring collections relating to the West of Ireland generally, and collects in a number of subject areas where it has existing strenghts. These include collections relating to Irish language and literature collections, academic papers relating to the University, landed estate collections, political collections, business collections, as well as theatre and literature collections.
